The Woman God Wants Me To Be

Have you ever thought about the woman that God wants you to be?

As I was praying and fasting one day God began to reveal to me the importance of this. I was thinking about all the things that I needed to achieve before the year ended, and heard Gods still voice ask me “but are you the woman that I want you to be.” Talk about conviction. This led me to begin to research some of the characteristics of Godly women.

In the midst of distractions and being occupied with life, many women including myself forget.

I believe that cultivating these characteristics will help other Christian Woman also:

1. A woman who seeks God first.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

~ Matthew 6:33 ~

A Godly woman seeks God before anything else. We live in a world where there are many distractions, however when we realise that only God can satisfy us, everything else will fall into place.

Anna was a woman in the Bible who sought God first. She devoted herself to continual service in the temple. Her lifestyle of praying and fasting was where God could use her. This caused her to speak about Jesus, to those who were seeking salvation (Luke 2:38).

2. A woman who is humble.

Humility is defined in the Oxford dictionary as the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance.

When I look at a woman who was humble in the bible I think of Joanna. Joanna shows the perfect illustration of humility. Luke 8:2 says that Joanna is one of the women who Jesus healed of evil spirits and infirmities. She is also described to be the wife of Chuza who is king Herods steward. It is likely that he would have earned a good salary meaning that Joanna would have had a comfortable lifestyle, however we see in the Bible that she sacrificed this to follow Jesus. She is mentioned as one of the women in Luke 24:10 that came to the tomb following Jesus’ death and returned to the eleven disciples, telling them that Jesus had risen.

It is important to be humble as this is where we will find Gods Grace (James 4:6).

3. A woman who is Modest.

As women we want to look good, have the right make up, weave and keep up with the latest dress trends.

The Bible emphasises that women should be more concerned about the beauty of a quiet and gentle spirit rather than their outward appearance.

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

~ 1 Peter 3:3-4 ~

A woman who is modest is not only modest in the way that she dresses but also modest in her character. First and foremost she fears God.

“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”

~ Proverbs 31:30 ~

The Proverbs 31 Woman was a woman who feared God as opposed to being so concerned with what she looked like. The Bible says that this kind of woman is to be praised.

4. A woman who is Hospitable and serves others.

Lydia was a woman in the Bible who was not only hospitable but also served others. She was described to have invited Paul and Silas to stay in her home (Acts 16:15) and her house became the meeting place of the first European church.

Lydia demonstrated that she had a servants heart, that even when Paul and Silas were thrown into prison Lydia visited them and attended to their needs.

Having a servants heart is described as one of the greatest things God desires of Godly women. We can use this attribute to bring many others to Christ.

5. A woman who is submissive.

Women are called to be submissive whether we like it or not.

To submit means to accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person.

Submission goes beyond wives submitting to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22-33). Even if you are single you can submit to those who have authority over you such as spiritual leaders, the Government and Managers at your place of work.

Mary of Nazareth gives the perfect illustration of submission in Luke 1 where she receives the news that she would be carrying the Messiah. Although this must of been overwhelming she submitted to this assignment and the Bible goes on to say that she praised (Luke 1:46-55). Not only was Mary a virgin and would have suffered shame as she was not yet married. Imagine she also had to submit to her own son. She then became a devoted follower of Jesus.

6. A woman who is able to exercise self-control.

To be able to exercise self-control is crucial to our walk and one of the fruits of the spirit.

Why is self-control so important?

“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls.”

~ Proverbs 25:28 ~

Without self control we are vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.

Abigail was married to Nabal (his name means foolish) and the Bible describes him as harsh and evil (1 Samuel 25:3). Many of us, if married to Nabal first reaction would be to cuss him out and tell him about himself, however Abigail was able to control her tongue and was also careful with her words. She was also wise enough to find the right timing to address the issue.

7. A woman who is kind.

An example of a woman of kindness in the Bible is Ruth. Ruth showed Naomi a great amount of love and kindness. These were the words of Ruth:

“But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.””

~ Ruth 1:16-17~

Ruth did all this knowing that she would be poor and an outcast in an unfamiliar place, however it was the love and kindness that she showed to Naomi that made Boaz show favour towards her.

A woman of God should be kind not only in in the way that she treats others but also in the way that she speaks to others.

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.”

~ Proverbs 31:26 ~

Being kind is easier said than done, however the Bible illustrates how we can clothe ourselves with kindness (Colossians 3:12).

8. A woman who studies the word of God.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ~

To be a woman of God we need to study the word of God, not only for knowledge and self-education, but also to share the Gospel with others.

Priscilla was a woman who clearly studied the word of God. She is described in Acts 18:26 to take Apollos aside and explain to him the word of God More accurately (Acts 18:26).

9. A woman who is prayerful.

A woman of God is disciplined in spending time with God and makes prayer a priority.

In 1 Samuel 1 we read about Hannah. Hannah’s fervent prayer teaches us that persistent prayer get God’s attention and He hears from us. She believed God for a son and He answered her prayers by multiplying her faith by giving her many children.

A woman with the above traits is priceless and she is worth more than rubies. Is there anything thing else I’ve mentioned that you feel make a Godly Woman. Leave your comments below and I look forward to hearing from you.

Loving Yourself!

It’s actually okay to love yourself. No, we are not talking about the love where all you do is think about yourself. Neither are we talking about being narcissistic, vain or prideful, but rather the type of love that you have when you regard your own well-being, happiness and accept who Christ has made you to be. This is the kind of love that you can extend to others.

Loving yourself is something that should be instilled in women from when they are young, however many women miss this and go into woman-hood struggling to find their self worth, value and sense of happiness.

You can only love another person as much as you love yourself.

What does this mean?

Take *Becky* for instance. She has grown up hating herself, from the way she looks to where she is in life. *Becky* does not know her self-worth. The way she feels about herself leads to her feeling depressed and insecure. The way *Becky* feels about herself is projected onto the people she meets. Because she does not love herself this impacts on how she sees and treats others. She is overcome with bitterness, envy and anger towards people.

You would be surprised how many young girls/women are like *Becky*.

“And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

~ Matthew 22:39 ~

Judging from this scripture, Jesus is making the assumption that we already love ourselves. Loving ourselves in this regard is not a bad thing.

Created in His image:

God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27). When we begin to hate ourselves, we are basically saying that the way God created us is not good enough or that God got it wrong.

We need to begin by seeing ourselves as God sees us. Yes we sin and fall short of the glory of God daily but God washes us clean.

“And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

~ I Corinthians 6:11 ~

Loving yourself is one of the best gifts that you could ever give yourself. If you don’t love yourself, there isn’t much left to give others and this will result in you becoming an ineffective Christian.

Here are some steps to help you to love yourself:

1. Begin by valuing yourself.

“Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you;

~ Isaiah 43:4 ~

Jesus loves you and places such a value on your life. So much so that the very hairs on your head are numbered. You do not have to worry because God has got you in every way. The Bible says that you are of more value than the sparrows who He takes care of very well. How much more will He take care of you(Matthew 10:30-31).

2. Accept who you are.

When you accept yourself for who you are, you begin to accept your weaknesses as well as your strengths. Paul also acknowledged this.

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 ~

There will be times when you mess up. This is where you will need to accept yourself through the redemption of Christ Jesus and remember that it is because of Him that you are accepted not because of yourself.

“being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”

~ Romans 3:24 ~

3. Embrace your uniqueness.

“My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.”

~ Psalms 139:15 ~

You are you, and nobody can take that away. This is what makes you unique. The fact that you were “skillfully” made by God is something you can appreciate. When you embrace your uniqueness you will then begin to understand God’s plan for your life and will allow God to use you according to His will and purpose.

4. Take care of yourself.

“For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.”

~ Ephesians 5:29 ~

Your basic care is very important and is more than just taking care of yourself physically. You must also take care of yourself mentally and spiritually too.

Every time you look at yourself negatively and think you are not good enough, you are denying that God made you fearfully and wonderfully, (Psalms 139:14) so start working on loving yourself today.

Stay Blessed and Encouraged.

First and Foremost: Putting God First

Putting God first is sometimes easier said than done. We live in a world where there are many distractions, whether it be a career, friends or every day life, we don’t always make God our priority. We can easily be consumed by things that take our attention away from God.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

~ Matthew 6:33 ~

So what does it mean to seek first the kingdom of God?

As Christians we are called to make the things of God a priority. This involves constantly working on our salvation, living a life of righteousness, living in obedience and sharing the good news in order to save souls. Basically being about our fathers business should be our main focus.

We shouldn’t be too caught up about the cares of this world. God is very much aware of what our needs are and has promised that He will provide for us (Philippians 4:19).

Recently I took a break from social media, so that I could really spend time in God’s presence. I realised that I wasn’t giving Him my all. God showed me that He wants all of me, and he wants the same for you too. When we put Him first in everything that we do, He will establish His plan for our lives.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

~ Proverbs 16:3 ESV ~

One of the dangers when we do not put God first is that we can begin to idolise the very thing that we are putting before Him. This could be a desired lifestyle, money, material things or a love interest.

“You shall have no other gods before Me.”

~ Exodus 20:3 ~

The Bible says that you cannot serve two masters, because you will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and despise the other. It also goes on to say you cannot serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). Whenever you seek to serve anything else other than God you are neglecting how big God is.

If putting God first is something that you personally struggle with then these steps may help you.

1. Fall in Love with Your Creator.

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

~ Deuteronomy 6:5 ~

When you love God with everything, you are making Him your desire and you will find it easier to put Him first.

2. Delight Yourself in God.

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

~ Psalms 37:4 ~

When we delight ourselves in God the bible says that He will give us the desires of our hearts. Delighting in God means that our hearts find peace and fulfilment in Him alone.

3. Spend time God’s Presence.

“Early will I seek You…”

~ Psalms 63:1 ~

Spending time in God’s presence means being intentional about the time you spend with Him. Communion with God is so important. Something I have realised is praying first thing in the morning sets the tone for the day. The first thing we should be doing when we wake up is acknowledge and thank God for the fact that we have seen another day.

Jesus even took time to spend time in God’s presence. We see in Mark 1:35 that He went out and departed to a solitary place and prayed.

Another way of being in God’s presence is meditating on the word of God.

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.”

~ Psalms 1:2 ~

4. Trust God Fully.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

~ Proverbs 3:5-6 ~

During my social media fast, this scripture came up over and over again, whether I was reading or listening to a sermon. I realised when we put God first we are demonstrating that we fully trust Him. We tithe because we trust that God can provide all of our needs. The more we trust God the more we will put Him first in all of our decisions.

5. Be About God’s People.

Sometimes we need to take our attention away from ourselves and remember that Jesus’ came to save people and wants us to be part of that.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

‭‭~ Matthew‬ ‭28:19‬ ‭~

When we put God first, we automatically have the desire to put others first because we want to share the Gospel with them and bring them to Christ. After giving our lives to Christ, our next mission should be to win souls.

You will never experience all of God’s greatness until you put Him first. So make the vow to put God first today.
